INSYS GSM/GPRS/EDGE for the control cabinet

The GSM network is the basis for worldwide transmission of voice, data and text
messages to mobile end devices. For industrial use, data is transmitted using the
following services:

  • CSD - Data transmission via a voice channel (just like a normal modem)
  • SMS - Sending and receiving short text messages
  • GPRS/EDGE - Packet-switching data service, usually via an internet connection

GPRS and EDGE can provide higher data rates due to channel bundling and the
advantage of payment according to data volume. This allows you to set up a virtual
dedicated line at a very low cost, for sending many small data packets (e.g.
measurement values).

Local ports for GPRS devices

serial:Behaves like a standard modem when connected to a serial port (RS-232), all protocol stacks
are encapsulated
Ethernet:   Router with NAT and Port Forwarding, Ethernet Access 10BT
PPP:IP data is passed to the program via the serial port (RS-232) and via PPP. The program can
process PPP connections and IP connections directly.

Extra functions

Inputs/outputs (IO)
  • 4 inputs (I4) or 2 inputs and 2 outputs (potential-free switch relay)
  • Remote control and status requests via SMS, DTMF and remote configuration
Alarm notification
  • Alarm message can be sent via SMS, Fax or data connection
  • 10 user-defined alarm messages per input, with individual recipient number
Security
  • Security Callback (with serial GPRS you can also choose an IP connection)
  • Password-protected connection process, Security Callback, SMS commands
  • PIN for DTMF commands
Surveillance
  • Regular "OK" notification via SMS
  • Power-Up SMS with information on downtime

Configuration

All INSYS GSM/GPRS/EDGE devices, except INSYS GPRS/EDGE 5.0 Ethernet, connect to the
local program (e.g. a control program) via a serial port (RS-232). They can be configured
using the free software HSComm (Download information on the right).

INSYS GPRS/EDGE 5.0 Ethernet have an ethernet connection and can be configured using
a web interface. For other GPRS routers with integrated switches, please see the link
under MoRoS.

All devices can log themselves back in automatically after power outages. For stationary
operations, automated regular logout and login is supported. Within the GSM network,
4 frequencies are in use worldwide - the INSYS devices either support all four (quad band)
or only the two used in Europe (dual band).
